In 1985, Amalgamated Book Services was formed to provide a dedicated and comprehensive sales representation service to publishers.

 

ABS has built up excellent relationships with all of the major book-trade customers and is seen by many booksellers as the leading force in independent sales representation.

 

Salaried Sales Team

ABS offers nationwide representation through our fully-trained, salaried and experienced sales team under the management of our highly experienced Sales Manager.

The team covers the whole of the UK and Ireland and boasts two Account Managers covering London.

 

Regular presentations are made at Head Office level to all the retail and wholesale multiples in the book trade by our Key Accounts Executive.

National and regional library suppliers are visited on a monthly basis and these accounts also receive regular mailings from us.

 

Publisher Feedback

ABS gives full sales feedback to the publisher.  The weekly sales reports from the sales teams are carefully checked in the sales office and all relevant useful information is sent directly the the publisher.

We also provide sales and marketing reports upon request as well as progress reports on new titles.

 

Regular meetings are held with clients to discuss and decide upon future publishing programs and strategies.

ABS sees active participateion with clients as a vital part of the service and frequently advises on publicity and promotion, as well as book format, jacket and design.

 

We organise regular sales conferences with our sales team and these meetings provide important opportunity for publishers to present titles to the salespeople.

 

The Complete Service

Publishers are encouraged to advertise in our catalogue, which, as well as fulfilling its primary function of achieving maximum sales, many outlets find to be an excellent reference tool.

Copies of our catalogue are always left with customers, which means that buyers are exposed to the most direct form of publicity at minimal cost - an excellent way of not only increasing sales in the short term, but also of generating a long-term awareness of a publisher's list.

 

Additional backlist sales are regularly achieved via themed promotions and seasonal stock checks.

For the last sales cycle of the year, we produce a special colour HOTLINE order form for the best selling and fastest moving lines.  24-hour delivery is guaranteed on these orders.

 

All clients are issued with a regularly updated selling cycle sheet, designed to inform clients of dates when camera-ready artwork, new title information, book jackets and copy need to be provided to ABS in order to be included in specific selling cycles.

Performance Database

Rep and sales performance are monitored by our in-house customer database. We are able to pinpoint key title orders, stock sales, monthly subscriptions and much more.

 

This vital information is used by our office backup team to make sure that every possible order is taken by the sales team.

 

In addition, we impose mandatory stock checks on key titles in all our High Street chains.

Publishers are able to get an up-to-date snapshot of how their titles are performing.
